Nordic RCC & TSOs Confirm Publication of M-1 Long-Term Capacity Calculation Results Ahead of Go-Live on 8 April 2026

The Long-Term Capacity Calculation (LTCC) project parties are pleased to announce the Go-Live of the Month-Ahead (M-1) LTCC process on April 8, 2026. The introduction of the M-1 LTCC process aims to provide earlier and more up-to-date cross-zonal capacity information closer to real system conditions, thereby improving the robustness of capacity forecasts, supporting operational security, and enabling better market preparation ahead of the delivery month.

In practice at Go-Live, results for the M-1 timeframe will be published on the Nordic RCC website. This data includes Month-Ahead Flow-Based (FB) domains and the associated ATCE values for delivery month May 2026 and onwards. The details of these publications can be found in the updated Publication Handbooks (available here).

The long-term allocation process for the DK1–DK2 border will be operated according to the existing procedures and processes until the long-term flow-based allocation process implementation, that is currently targeted for end-2026

About Long-Term Capacity Calculation processes
The long-term coordinated capacity calculation project focuses on implementing the Nordic Long-Term Capacity Calculation Methodology, in accordance with the requirements set out in the Forward Capacity Allocation (FCA) Guideline. The methodology is applied to Month-ahead and Year-ahead timeframes. Due to the scenario-based approach used in the respective time frame Common Grid Model merging process, the respective flow-based results of each scenario are expected to vary. The resulting capacities will be published as information to stakeholders and forwarded to the applicable long-term allocation processes when those implementations are ready.

The implementation builds on the proven Flow-Based Methodology already in use in the Nordics for the single Day-ahead Market Coupling, thereby strengthening consistency and transparency of capacity calculation across timeframes.

Comprehensive testing confirms full readiness
Local and regional readiness for Go-Live have been validated through extensive and structured testing. End-to-end testing and two internal parallel run activities have been completed successfully ahead of Go-Live, including validation of operational interfaces with TSOs and dedicated TSO validation of FB and ATCE results. During these runs actual M-1 data for months of March and April 2026 was used and sensitivity analysis performed for selected parameters, demonstrating system stability and process robustness under varying conditions. Together, these tests confirm operational readiness and provide confidence in both the technical set-up and coordinated processes across all involved parties. Validation with JAO is ongoing and the preparation for readiness would continue until the end of this year.

Nordic collaboration enabling go-live readiness and future development
The successful completion of test activities underlines the effective collaboration between Nordic RCC and the four Nordic TSOs. Building on this strong foundation, the LTCC project will continue with the implementation of the new Nordic Unavailability Collection System (NUCS) business process and Urgent Market Messages (UMM) improvements at the NUCS platform.
